Around Carpe Diem, birds are present almost all the time. For guests arriving from the city, even the first morning often sounds completely different from everyday life.
The most characteristic of them are the cranes. Their calls carry far across the meadows and lakes, especially in spring and autumn.
Many people hear real cranes here for the first time — not from a recording, but live. After that, it is hard to mistake the sound for anything else.
Masuria (the Masurian Lake District) is also one of the best places to watch white storks. Their nests stand by the roads, on rooftops and on poles in many of the surrounding villages.
In summer, storks walk across the fields entirely at ease. For the locals it is an everyday sight, but for many of our guests it remains something special.
On the lakes you can also spot cormorants, grey herons, grebes and various species of waterfowl. During migration periods the region becomes an important corridor for passing birds.
The best time to observe wildlife is early morning or late afternoon. That is when the lakes and meadows are at their most alive.
Sometimes, rather than planning yet another outing, it is worth simply sitting outside in the morning with a coffee and listening to what is happening around the house.
