Our recommendation for Mikołajki is simple: give it one afternoon and combine the old town with the waterfront. From Carpe Diem it is 25 minutes by bike, and under half an hour by car.
Before you go down to the harbour, take a look around the older part of town. Mikołajki has Old Prussian roots, town rights since 1726 and traditional buildings from the period when it belonged to Prussia and later to Germany. It is only a few streets, but they add a layer of history to what is otherwise a modern sailing town.
By the water, most of the life is on the promenade. It runs for 1.3 km and is lined with cafés, taverns, shops, watersports rentals, jetties and the passenger boat harbour. Further along you can walk through the Sailing Village and see the hand-operated swing bridge.
We also recommend the sail-shaped footbridge. It is a good vantage point over the harbour, the town beach and the waterfront. For an even wider panorama you can climb the 30-metre tower of St Nicholas’ church, which looks out over the town and five lakes.
Since May 2026 Mikołajki also has a large observation wheel. A little like the London Eye, only on a smaller scale. It is a completely different way to look at the town from above.
