On the property fire shows up in three places: the fireplace inside the house, the dedicated firepit outside and the stoves of the sauna and the hot tub. Each one has its own rules — here they are, in short.
Info
Grill, firepit, fireplace
Firepit
The firepit may only be lit in its dedicated spot. That way the grounds stay tidy and using the fire is safe for everyone.
Good to know
- Never leave a lit firepit unattended.
- When you are done, make sure the fire is out and there is no risk of it flaring back up.
- If the wind is strong, it is better to skip the firepit.
- If anything is missing at the firepit, please let us know.
How to use the firepit
- Only use the dedicated firepit spot.
- Do not move the firepit — the grass underneath gets permanently scorched.
- For the firepit, use softwood from the area marked “firepit wood”.
- For toasting, you can use the dedicated roasting stick.
- For grilling, you can use the lowering grate on the tripod.
- Aluminium grill trays are in the utility room, above the white wall cabinets.
Fireplace
The fireplace lights up best the simple way: a piece of paper, a few thin kindling sticks and the right airflow. There is no need for artificial BBQ firelighters.
Good to know
- The fire-starting kit is kept high on a shelf, out of easy reach of children.
- Ash goes only into the metal bucket standing next to the fireplace.
- Never tip hot ash into plastic containers.
- Ash can stay hot for more than 24 hours, so it is safer to leave it in the metal bucket.
How to light the fireplace
- Use the wood kept by the fireplace inside the house.
- Thin kindling sticks and fire-starting bits are in the utility room, on the white shelf to the left of the entrance.
- Do not use artificial BBQ firelighters.
- A sheet of paper and around 5–6 thin kindling sticks are all you need.
- Open the air intake on the fireplace — one damper is below and another above the fireplace glass.
- At the start you can crack the door open by a few millimetres to boost the draught.
- Once the fire catches, close the door and keep the burn calm and steady.
