Guide for guests

Walks and the way down to the lake

From the house you can walk down to the lake to two different beaches. Both options start the same way: a shared stretch leading to a fork, where one route continues to a wild public beach and the other to the beach by the Zanzibar tavern.

There the route splits: red continues north to the public beach (A), and blue heads east to the Zanzibar tavern (B). Dots flow from the house towards the beaches.house

The start — shared by both beaches

From the house you set off along a wide arc (a little horseshoe) and then straight on, along an unpaved road, towards the fork. On your left there is forest, and on your right four or five small holiday cottages. The whole walk runs along unpaved and gravel roads. There the route divides.

Step by step

  • Leave the house and turn left out of the drive.
  • Follow the arc through the neighbourhood, then carry on straight towards the fork — forest on the left, small cottages on the right.
  • At the fork you choose: route A (public beach) or route B (Zanzibar tavern).

Route A — the public beach (red)

From the fork it is a little further, but you reach a large, wild, grassy beach. It is completely free, with no extra amenities and no marinas in the immediate surroundings. The entry to the water is gentle — it stays shallow for quite a while, which makes it a good spot for children and for anyone who does not feel confident in deep water straight away. After thirty or forty metres it deepens, opening into clear water for proper swimming.

Step by step

  • At the fork keep to route A (the red line).
  • Carry on along the shore — a touch longer than to Zanzibar.
  • You arrive at a wild, grassy beach: free of charge, with a gentle entry to the water.

Route B — the Zanzibar tavern (blue)

At the fork you bear slightly right and, after a moment, left, through the gate of the Zanzibar tavern. You walk straight down — first comes the marina with its sailing jetties. You go between the jetties and the tavern, turning right; the beach lies beyond the marina, past the last jetty. It is free too, but as a courtesy guests are asked to order something at the tavern — it is the tavern that looks after this beach.

Step by step

  • At the fork turn slightly right, then left — through the Zanzibar gate.
  • Walk down to the marina; go between the jetties and the tavern, turning right.
  • The beach is past the last jetty. Entry is free — the gentle convention is to order something at the tavern.

Good to know

Before you set off

  • The easiest way to remember it: out of the drive to the left, in an arc along the forest to the fork — that is where you choose your beach.
  • The whole walk runs along unpaved and gravel roads — sensible shoes are a good idea.
  • If you are walking with children — keep a calm pace and stick to the verge. The gentle, shallow entry is at the public beach (A).
  • The beach by Zanzibar (B) is free, but it is good form to order something at the tavern that looks after it.
  • The map is a schematic for orientation. If in doubt, drop your hosts a message — the phone numbers are in the house guide.
