Story
In winter Carpe Diem slows down even further. Snow quietens the grounds, the forest beyond the fence feels closer, and a log house holds warmth differently from ordinary walls. Inside there is the fireplace, wood, soft light and the simple luxury of not having to go anywhere.
And yet you do go out. The spa area is a dozen or so paces from the house, so even in a frost it is more of a small ritual than an expedition. The sauna warms the body quickly, the ice plunge does its work, and the hot tub steams harder than in summer. Cold air on your face and warm water up to your neck — that does not need a long description.
The best part is coming back. A few steps to the house, the bathrobe comes off, someone adds a log to the fire, someone puts the kettle on. The children play board games or disappear with a book. The adults say they will sit up just a little longer.
Winter here is not an off-season. It is an experience of its own. Quieter, more domestic, and very good for anyone who genuinely wants to rest.
